Flood vents are required in foundations built below Base Flood Elevation (BFE) in a flood zone. Smart VENT and Flood VENT Automatic Foundation Flood Vents are FEMA accepted and certified by the ICC Evaluation Service as an approved method of releasing hydrostaic pressure exerted on foundations by water at the time of a flood event. All Smart VENT products are Certified as Engineered Openings, allowing one 8" by 16" vent to protect 200 square feet of enclosed area below base flood elevation and meet all applicable NFIP flood nitigation requirements.
