Islander STANDARD ROLLING SHUTTER
SPECIFICATIONS

GENERAL

Standard rolling shutters as installed beside windows where indicated and as detailed on the drawings, shall be the all-aluminum islander, as manufactured by Willard Shutter Co, Inc., Miami, Florida.

CONSTRUCTION

Shutters shall consist of a series of 1-3/4" wide fixed louvers inserted into interlocking box-beam frames, 1-5/8" thick and 2-1/2" wide.

Louvers shall be rolled with a converse beveled edge and spaced in 1-1/4" height increments. Louvers may span a maximum 26", at which point an additional box-beam shall be required as an interior frame support (mull).

Each box-beam shall be packed with styrofoam to firmly receive the louver and add structural soundness to the frame. Heavy duty extruded aluminum I-beams shall be inserted into box-beams for additional reinforcement as required.

OPERATION

Standard rolling shutters shall slide across extruded aluminum header at the top on nylon rollers attached to the shutters. The shutter shall be secured at the bottom with appropriate hardware through aluminum tie-down brackets.

MATERIALS

Box-beam and louvers shall be 3004-H36 roll-formed aluminum, .025" thick.

Styrofoam shall be dyplast expanded polystyrene insulation to meet federal specifications HH-1-524a.

I-beam inserts shall be 6063-T6 extruded aluminum, .062" typical wall thickness.

All fasteners shall be self-tapping stainless steel machine screws or pop-rivets, aluminum alloy 2024-T4.

Aluminum extrusions shall be alloy 6063-T5.

Finish

Box-beam frame and louvers shall be roller-coated baked enamel in a medium gloss as selected from manufacturer¿s standard colors. (special finishes available subject to inquiry.) I-beam shall be mill finish. All other aluminum extrusions shall be anodized R1-201.

OPERATION

Sill track rolling shutters shall slide across extruded aluminum header at the top on nylon rollers attached to the shutters. A lower track shall be provided to act as a guide from the vinyl coated steel pins at the bottom of the shutters and to facilitate securing the shutters into a fixed position by means of stainless steel latches which drop down through aluminum brackets affixed to the sills of the shutters into holes drilled in the track.
