Amdega uses top-grade timber to build its conservatories, shipped from managed sources around the world. Skilled joiners, many who have worked for the company for years, assemble the framework of windows, doors and roof panels in workshops. The finished components are then primed and painted, according to specification, before being given a final quality control check and despatched for installation. The name Amdega is synonymous with the very best in conservatory design and the company is justifiably proud of its reputation as the oldest conservatory company in continuous production in the UK. Founded in 1874, it still operates from its original home town of Darlington, County Durham, though it is now represented worldwide. Paintings, early photographs and literature all provide evidence that, by the turn of the century, conservatories were the decorative settings for all sorts of social events, as well as traditional plant rooms.
