Cleaning & Repair

When staining or adding water repellent products to any above-grade vertical masonry, the surface will determine the product to be used as well as absorption ability. In addition to staining your brick and concrete, we can help ensure that the surface is properly prepared, taking the time to repair surface damage and even minor replacement of mortar, concrete and brick.
Nawkaw now offers:
Tuckpointing and Repointing
Pointing to place mortar into joints to correct defects or to completely fill joints in newly laid masonry.Repointing to place mortar into cut or raked joints to correct defective mortar joints in masonry.Tuckpointing to point masonry with a flush mortar joint that approximates the color of the masonry units and a mortar of contrasting color that is shaped into a thin strip.
Mortar Choice and Color
It is important to note that the strength of a replacement or repair mortar should not exceed that of the existing mortar. Traditional masonry walls consist of bricks, blocks and mortar, with mortar making up about 25 percent of the total wall, therefore, the mortar is as important as the brick or block. The appearance of mortar can greatly affect the overall appearance of the building. Mortar can be colored to blend with the brick or be left in its natural gray color, or lightened or darkened for architectural contrast.
Corrective Stain
After cleaning and repairs are complete staining will help blend any repaired areas with the existing brick or concrete. An outward water vapor flow is necessary to help prevent potential moisture problems in walls. And unlike paint, which forms a coating on the surface, our masonry stain is absorbed into the brick, for years of durability without the need for frequent reapplications. A Low VOC content with a water-base keeps our stains from harming the environment during application and clean up.
