ICS Penetron Selected to Waterproof Aquarium at Swedish National Science Center | Nov 19, 2004 |
Penetron System safe for use with all water animals.
November 19, 2004, E. Setauket, N.Y.- ICS Penetron International, Ltd. announced today that their Penetron System will be used to waterproof and seal the complex structures that comprise the aquarium and waterfall portions of the Swedish National Science Center called the Universeum. Nearly 800,000 people a year are expected to visit when King Carl XVI opens the facility in June of 2005.
The exact amount of meter surface to be treated with Penetron products to prevent leaks and to protect against chemical leaching is still being evaluated but is estimated to be in the thousands. The treatment will include multiple pools and several tunnels built through the pools to allow close-up viewing.
Waterproofing options were evaluated by Kjell Flodbert, a geologist at Terr Advance AB/Goteborg University. According to Benkt Anderson of Vegverket Produktion, the Penetron distributor in Sweden and the subcontractor for the aquarium project, after a thorough investigation, Penetron was rated superior to other products. We were able to demonstrate that Penetron prevents alkali from traveling within the concrete, that its crystallization process penetrates the concrete by osmosis and seals it effectively against liquids while allowing necessary exchanges of air and gases. He also stated that they are now considering treating all the walking areas with Penetron as well.
Mr. Robert Revera, President of ICS Penetron stated, we are very pleased to have been chosen for this important project from among so many competing systems. Having had such success with our products in similar applications in the U.S. and Asia, we are proud to add the Swedish National Science Center Aquarium to our list of projects and look forward to further expansion in Sweden in the near future.
