About Teak

  • Teak is an extremely dense hardwood; highly durable and resistant to rot caused by fungal decay as well as wood boring insects. Teak is resistant to water and many chemical agents, including acids.
  • Left untreated, teak is easily maintained and needs no treatment over many years of service.
  • When new, teak has a brown/olive color.
  • Used indoors, the wood gradually becomes a darker shade of brown.
  • Used outdoors, the sun gradually turns it to a soft-silver gray, which does not effect the structural integrity of the piece.

Sustainability and LEED

  • Our teak is from plantations in Java which are well managed by the government agency responsible for managing Indonesia's extensive forests and plantations. This agency strictly regulates the number and size of trees that can be felled, and the number of trees replanted to maintain productivity of the teak forests for future generations.
