News CertainTeed® Presidential Shake™ Impact Resistant Luxury Shingle Combines Wood Shake Style with Added Durability

(Valley Forge, Pennsylvania) — CertainTeed Corporation is pleased to offer building professionals more UL 2218 Class 4 roofing options with the introduction of the Presidential Shake™ Impact Resistant (IR) luxury shingle. The new asphalt roofing product features two laminated layers of the industry's most durable materials and is engineered with a tough fiber glass scrim on the back surface for increased durability. Presidential Shake IR shingles feature a unique sculptured tab for distinct styling that replicates the depth and dimension of wood shakes.

Presidential Shake IR shingles comply with UL 2218 Class 4 Impact Resistance of Prepared Roof Covering Materials, attaining the highest test rating for impact resistance. The shingles are tested to withstand the impact of a two-inch steel ball dropped from a height of 20 feet without cracking. Because of this durability, homeowners who have the impact-resistant shingle installed may be eligible for insurance premium reductions depending on the location of their property and their insurer.
According to John Donaldson, President of CertainTeed Roofing, this new shingle is the fourth product in the company’s line of impact-resistant shingles, the broadest, most extensive impact-resistant offering of any manufacturer. “We are pleased to broaden our impact-resistant offering to include our popular Presidential Shake. Not only will the shingle’s classic design give roofs the charm of authentic wood shakes, it is now offered with added resilience that gives homeowners more peace of mind.”
In addition, CertainTeed offers impact-resistant Presidential Accessory hip and ridge products and impact-resistant Presidential Starter shingles. Each is required for use with Presidential Shake IR to help ensure the entire roof meets Class 4 requirements, potentially qualifying homeowners for insurance discounts.
Presidential Shake IR luxury shingles come backed with a lifetime, limited transferable warranty, a 15-year StreakFighter™ warranty against streaking and discoloration caused by airborne algae, and a 10-year SureStart™ warranty that covers 100 percent of replacement and labor costs in the unlikely event of a manufacturing defect.
