Nawkaw Southeast honored two years in a row for concrete restoration | Feb 26, 2007 |
Nawkaw Southeast took home First Place honors from the ACI, Georgia Chapter once again in the concrete restoration category.
Atlanta, GA – January 18, 2007 – Nawkaw Southeast was again honored by the American
Concrete Institute’s Georgia Chapter for participation on a high-rise concrete restoration project
in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Nawkaw Southeast submitted the project last year for the ACI
Awards Competition, and walked away with First Place in the Restoration Category. This year
the project was submitted, under the contracting company, with mention of Nawkaw’s concrete
staining, and successfully won first place again.

The exterior surfaces of the high-rise were constructed of exposed river rock aggregate
consolidated concrete walls. After years of pollution build-up, the building’s bare spots began to
contrast unevenly and unattractively with the concrete surface.
Maintaining the character of the original building, Nawkaw Southeast presented a solution that
included a stain wash to imitate the river rock using Nawkaw’s proprietary NWRT-91 product.
The river rock not only became more vibrant with cleaning and staining, areas that were void of
the rock altogether, now appear abundant with the aggregate. Templates were designed to
replicate the river rock pattern in the concrete, involving strict matching of scale and texture to
the existing river rock. Nawkaw stained almost 70,000 square feet of consolidated concrete
surfaces, with the project taking 6 months to complete.
