First Commercial Outdoor Furniture for an Audience with Special Needs | Jan 28, 2007 |
Kalamazoo, MI – Landscape Forms announces the introduction of Wellspring, the first commercial outdoor furniture designed specifically for retirement and healthcare environments. It's no secret that the American population is aging and healthcare is a major national concern. Wellspring addresses the need for garden and courtyard furniture that meets the specific physical requirements of the ailing and recovering, aging and assisted, active and retired. It responds to mounting evidence that nature does have the power to heal and that green spaces and healing gardens can have profound effects on human health and well being.
Wellspring is a warm, welcoming teak wood collection with a chair, bench, rocker, table and sunshade. Designed by landscape architect Robert Chipman, the subtle features incorporated into the design give Wellspring ease of use for people with diminished strength and flexibility, while remaining visually appealing and comfortable for users of all ages and abilities.

Special Features
The Wellspring chair, bench and rocker have higher than typical arms, contoured seats, curved backs and extra slats for added comfort and support. The front end of the arm extends beyond the front edge of the seat to help users pull themselves up from a seated position using their arms.
In addition to the standard 17.5" high seat, Wellspring includes a 19" high bench that allows wheelchair transfer. The rocker, with its well-balanced structure and no mechanical parts, is designed for safety in motion. The strong, but light table serves multiple functions as a side table, snack table, project or meeting table, and is easy to move around. The 25.25" table height is the same as the arm height of the chair and bench, making it easy to reach from a seated position.
The Wellspring sunshade has a large 10' x 10' pyramid-shaped fabric canopy that provides more complete sun protection than a typical umbrella. This is an important feature in settings for people who often sit in one location for long periods of time and require extra protection from heat and UV exposure.
