System Mode Control Module Page - 6

DISCHARGE AIR SENSOR

  1. Locate discharge air sensor within three feet of the cooling/heating unit discharge and upstream from any bypass (between the cooling/heating unit and the bypass). The discharge air sensor should be centered on one face of the duct between the edges
  2. At that location, drill or punch a hole in the duct between 3/8 inch minimum and 1" maximum diameter.
  3. Insert the stem of the discharge air sensor into the hole in the duct and screw terminal box to the duct. Make sure that a minimum of 1/4 inch of the foam duct seal contacts the duct completely around the duct hole.
  4. Connect (2) wires from the SMC to the terminals inside the box. They may be connected to either terminal because polarity is not critical.

MOUNTING

The SMC is designed for mounting on the wall of an equipment room or similar location. Temperature in the place of mounting should be between 45°F and 120°F and relative humidity between 5% and 90%.

The SMC weighs 3 1/4 lbs. and has a NEMA I enclosure. A screw hole is provided in four locations on the back of the enclosure. These holes are sized to accept a maximum of a #10 screw.

The SMC should be located for easy wiring access. Holes for 1/2" conduit are located on the top of the SMC and on the back. Locations of the conduit holes are shown on the wall pattern and top drawings.
