ALPOLIC - Page 17

We were looking for a substrate that had inherent structural integrity, was lightweight and had the ability to be curved. ALPOLIC® was able to be curved into dramatic conical shapes that could be suspended from the existing stud framed walls. Also, it was important that the surface finish was such that vinyl graphics could be readily applied.

The creative challenge facing the designers was to use the walls as pages in a book to visually tell the story of this new technology paper company.

A 3/4" plywood support frame was constructed and hung approximately 2' off the floor on existing wall studs around two thirds of the room.Pre-rolled ALPOLIC® was then attached in sections with aluminium angles to the framing system.

The two dramatic conical shapes were achieved by rolling and forming precut flat ALPOLIC® that was then butted and secured with screws through the rout and return joints.

The surface of the ALPOLIC® is so smooth that vinyl graphics were easily applied and even up close have the visual appearance of silkscreening.
