Voltage Drop
Important: This information is applicable only to Lumascape
direct burial cable only.
It is important that the voltage drop (the amount of
voltage lost over the length of cable) is kept to a minimum. Cable runs should be kept as
short as possible and should not exceed 100 watts unless absolutely necessary.
Figure A illustrates the incorrect way to wire a Lumascape
system.
Figure B illustrates the correct way to wire a Lumascape
system.
Refer to the voltage drop table below to calculate maximum
run lengths.

Example - refer to Figure B
Cable run 1 has 60 total watts and is 40 feet long.
According to the Voltage Drop table, with a 60 watt load and single cable the maximum
allowable distance is 65 feet. Since 40 feet is under the maximum, the run is laid out
correctly.
Cable run 2 has 70 total watts and is 60 feet long.
According to the Voltage Drop table, with a 70 watt load and single cable the maximum
allowable distance is 50 feet. Since 60 feet is over this maximum a single cable circuit
is not permitted. However, if the cable is doubled, the maximum allowable distance is 100
feet. The double cable layout as shown in Figure B is correct. |
