COILING FIRE DOORS

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Installation

A. Installation: by Atlas Door authorized representative and in accordance with Atlas Door standards and instructions.

B. Compliance: installation in compliance with the latest issue of NFPA 80.

C. Testing: doors drop-tested and witnessed for normal operation after installation.

D. Maintenance: Per  NFPA 80, Chapter 15-2.4.3: "All horizontal or vertical sliding and coiling fire doors shall be inspected and tested annually to check for proper operation and full closure. Resetting of the release mechanism shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. A written record shall be maintained and be available to the authority having jurisdiction."

Optional Coiling Thermal / Coiling Service Door Features / Specifications

  • Approval available from Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada (ULC), Factory Mutual Research Inc. (FM), or California State Fire Marshal (CSFM). Please refer to chart for limitations.
  • Slats also available in stainless steel. Gauges available 22   (20 18 or 16) slat material.
  • Endlock continuous.
  • Bottom Bar  (galvanized steel) (painted galvanized steel)  or (stainless steel).
  • Astragal provided at the bottom bar.
  • Sensor Edge (for motorized doors): High cycle design is to satisfy (50,000) (100,000) cycles.
  • Bracket Plates made of (galvanized steel) (stainless steel).
  • Guides/Wall Angles (galvanized steel (stainless steel ) angles. Furnish ULI approved guide gasketing to seal against Type F3 flat slat to prevent passage of smoke.
  • Hoods fabricated of (#22 or #20 U.S. Gauge galvanized steel)   (stainless steel). Shape of hood: square. Furnish Flame Baffle in hood to prevent passage of smoke and flame. Required on FM labeled doors. ULI approved brush header seal to prevent passage of smoke also available.
  • Viscous Speed Governor: see LIFESAFETY Products pg. 11.
  • Locking: Slide Bolts: on bottom bar, suitable for padlocks (padlocks by others). Cylinder Locks: on bottom bar.
  • Painted Finish: Galvanized Surfaces: slats and hood galvanized. Baked- on (gray) (tan) coat of epoxy-modified polyester on slats and hood. Shop coat of rust-inhibiting metallic primer on all remaining ungalvanized surfaces, except bearings.
  • Powder Coat Finish: provide a powder coat colored finish on both sides of the roll formed slat or other door components. Choice of 10 standard colors. Specify manufacturer's number for custom colors.
  • Electric Thermal Links (ETL) and McCabe Fuse Links are available.
  • Atlas Door Fire Scout: Release devise see LIFESAFETY Products pg.10.
  • Atlas Door Fire Power: ULI - approved motor operator designed for applications where false alarms are frequent: see LIFESAFETY Products pg.10.
  • Smoke Detectors: furnish (ionization) (photoelectric) smoke detector to activate automatic closing device. Connection to magnetic holder required. (See Fire Scout above.) Installation and wiring by others.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Where units are mounted above ceiling, coil should be raised at least 7'' (177.8mm) above ceiling to avoid modification and allow dropout mechanism to function for automatic closing.
  • Dimension of  top hood bead is 4'' (101.6mm). Where headroom is limited, 4'' (101.6mm) requirement can be eliminated by turning bead down.
  • Guides are required to be 3/4'' (19.05mm) minimum above floor by ULI (ULC) listings to allow for head expansion in case of fire. Door, however, will close to floor.
  • Additional clearance is required on oversized units. Please consult engineering.
  • **Suffix letters indicate material and/or finish of curtain.
  • GS-Galvanized steel, not painted galvanized PS-Galvanized steel with backed-on coat of primer paint ST-Stainless steel.
