LABELED COUNTER SHUTTERS
Atlas Door Labeled Counter Shutters are designed to provide
fire protection while still functioning as a standard counter shutter. Available in manual
push-up, awning crank, or motor-operated, These shutters are ideal for small opening
protection because of reduced clearance requirements and compact size of guides and hoods.
A governing device controls the shutter's rate of descent. The automatic closing mechanism
is activated by a fire alarm system, smoke or heat detector, or a melting fuse line 165°F
(74° C).
For new wall opening, an integral frame package can be
provided with UL class B label.
When the aesthetic of a labeled integral frame shutter is
desired for an existing wall opening, Atlas Door can provide a between jamb mounted
counter shutter with its sill & trim package.
When controlling smoke is a concern. Atlas Door can provide
a rated smoke shutter with UL-labeled brush weather stripping or vinyl stripping to
prevent the passage of smoke through the opening.

Counter Shutters curtain slat construction.
1. Slats:cold roll-formed in continuous
lengths of (gray) (tan)painted galvanized steel interlocked to form curtain.
B. Endlocks: each end of alternate slats
fitted with endlocks to act as a wearing surface in the guides to
maintain slat alignment and to prevent flame passage.
C. Gauge: thickness of slat material to
satisfy Underwriters' Laboratories requirements.
D. Galvanizing: zinc-coated in accordance
with ASTM A-653.
E. Bottom Bar: curtain reinforced with a
bottom bar with lift handles provided on both sides of shutters.
F. Astragal: bottom bar furnished with an
astragal to protect counter top finish.
2.03 Operation
A. (manual push-up) (awning crank) (motor
-operated).
2.04 Mounting
A. (Interior face mounted on a prepared
opening).
***Select either A-Above or A-Below***
A. (Interior mounted between jambs and
under lintel in a prepared opening).
2.05 Approval Shutters
A. Shutters tested and approved by
Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. (ULI).
B. Labeled: Shutters up to 120ft2 (11.2m2)
in area and up to 12'-0'' (3658mm) in width of 10'-0'' (3048mm) in height furnished with
ULI Class A (3 - hour) rating.
2.06 Automatic Closing
A. Triggering of automatic closing
mechanism by melting of fusible link at 165°F (74°C)
2.07 Spring Counterbalance
A. Counterbalance: housed in a steel pipe
of diameter and wall thickness to restrict maximum deflection to 0.03'' per foot
(2.5mm/m) of shutter width.
B. Springs: helical torsion type designed
to include an overload factor of 25% and for optimum ease of operation. Springs
grease-packed and mounted on a cold rolled steel inner shaft.
C. Spring Tension: adjustable from outside
of end bracket plate. Upon emergency operation, internal shaft kicker shall initiate
downward travel of door curtain. Spring tension partially released to induce continued
downward travel, however shutters shall retain sufficient counterbalance to provide
assistance with emergency egress.
D. Ball Bearing: sealed, to minimize wear
of pipe shaft rotation around inner shaft.
2.08 Bracket Plates
A. Bracket Plates carrying pipe
counterbalancing shaft no less than 1/8'' (3.18mm) thickness and are to house ends of door
coil. Shape of bracket to be square.
B. Drive End Bracket Plate: fitted with a
sealed ball bearing.
C. Governor: shutter equipped with an
oscillating governor as required to control rate of descent. (Smaller sizes
may not require a governor.)
D. Thru Wall Fusible Link: provide fusible
links on both sides of wall.
