INTEGRAL FRAME SHUTTERS

LABELED INTEGRAL FRAME SHUTTERS APPROVED BY UNDERWRITERS' LABORATORIES, INC.,

Atlas Door's design combines a frame and labeled shutters into an integral packages. The frame and shutter are set in place as the wall is constructed. Shutters up to 6'-0'' (1829mm) in width or 4'-0'' (1219mm) in height are furnished with UL Class A label. In case of fire, the shutters close automatically. The automatic closing mechanism is activated by a fire alarm system, smoke or heat detector, or a melting fuse link 165°F (74° C).

PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 Section Includes

A. Labeled Integral Frame Shutters: Curtains, frame assembly, counterbalance mechanisms, operators, installation options and hardware.

1.02 Quality Assurance

A. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with local governing codes for Fire-Rated Counter Shutters.

PART 2 PRODUCT 2.01 Manufacturer

A. Provide Atlas Door brand Labeled Counter Shutters as manufactured by Clopay Building Products Company, Inc., 312 Walnut Street, Suite 1600, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202-4036.

2.02 Materials / Construction

A. Type: Atlas Door Model: (R12**) Labeled Integral Frame Shutter.

1. R12SS: stainless steel frame / stainless steel curtain slats.

1. R12PP: primed galvanized steel frame / primed galvanized steel slats.

1. R12GV: stainless steel frame / frame   primed galvanized steel slats.

1. R12SP:  primed galvanized steel frame /  stainless steel slats.

B. Operation: manual push-up.

C. Mounting : set in pass-thru wall opening without additional field assembly

D. Approval: shutters tested and approved by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. (ULI).

E. Label: Class A (3-hour) rating.

F. Automatic Closing: Triggering of automatic closing mechanism  by melting of fusible link at 165°F (74°C)

2.02 Curtain Construction

A. Steel Shutter Slats: Cold roll-formed in continuous length of stainless steel, interlocked to form curtain.

B. Endlocks: each end of alternate slats fitted with  endlocks  to act as a wearing surface in the guides  to maintain slat alignment and to prevent flame passage.

C. Gauge: thickness of slat material to satisfy Underwriters' Laboratories requirements.

D. Galvanizing: zinc-coated in accordance with ASTM A-653.

E. Bottom Bar: curtain reinforced with a bottom bar  with lift handles provided on both sides of shutters.

F. Astragal: bottom bar furnished with an astragal to protect counter top finish.

2.03 Spring Counterbalance

Counterbalance: housed in a steel pipe of diameter and wall thickness to restrict maximum deflection to 0.03''  per foot (2.5mm/m) of shutter width.

B. Springs: helical torsion type designed to include an overload factor of 25% and for optimum ease of operation. Springs grease-packed and mounted on a cold rolled steel inner shaft.

C. Spring Tension: adjustable from outside of end bracket plate.

D. Ball Bearing: sealed, to minimize wear of pipe shaft rotation around inner shaft.

2.04 Bracket Plates

A. Bracket Plates integral with frame construction to support  counterbalancing shaft no less than 1/8'' (3.18mm) thickness and are to house ends of shutter coil.

B. Drive End Bracket Plate: fitted with a sealed ball bearing.

C. Thru Wall Fusible Link: provide fusible links on both sides of wall.

2.05 Frame, Hood And Fascia

A. Frame: no less than #16 U.S. Gauge steel. Provide masonry (steel or wood) anchors integral with frame construction.

Hood:no less than  #16 US Gauge steel. Shape of hood: square.

Fascia: Provide steel closure as required.

2.06 Guides

A. Guides: integral with frame construction.

2.07 Sill

A. Sill: integral with frame construction and no less than #14 US Gauge steel filled with 2-1/2 lbs. (1.14kg) spintex insulation.

2.08 Locking

A. Slide Bolts: on bottom bar, suitable for padlocking  (padlocks by others).

2.09 Finish

A. Stainless Steel: to consist of a # 4 finish

B. Galvanized Surfaces: to consist of a gray baked-on coat of epoxy modified polyester prime.

C. Ungalvanized Steel Surfaces: to consist of a gray shop coat of rust-inhibiting metallic primer on exposed ferrous surfaces, except bearings.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 Installation

A. Installation: by Atlas Door authorized representative and in accordance with Atlas Door standards and instructions.

B. Compliance: installation in compliance with the latest issue of NFPA 80.

C. Testing: shutters drop-tested and witnessed for normal operation after installation.

D. Maintenance: Per  NFPA 80, Chapters 15,2,4,3: "All horizontal or vertical sliding and coiling fire doors shall be inspected and tested annually to check for proper operation and full closure. Resetting of the release mechanism shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. A written record shall be maintained and be available to the authority having jurisdiction."

  • Electric Thermal LinksŪ (ETL) and McCabe Fuse Links are also available. 
  • Atlas Door Fire Scout: ULI-approved motor operator designed for applications where false alarms are frequent
  • Smoke Detectors: furnish (ionization) (photoelectric) smoke detector to activate automatic closing device. Connection to Fire Scout required. Installation and wiring by others .
