Roof Notes
MINIMUM BEARING
- Joist ends require a minimum bearing of 1 3/4"; intermediate supports require 3 1/2".
LATERAL SUPPORT
- All roof joist end bearings must be laterally supported using BCI joist blocking or X-bracing.
BIRDSMOUTH CUTS AT BEARING
- The flange of BCI joists may be birdsmouth cut only at the low end of the joist. The birdsmouth cut BCI joist flange must bear fully on the plate, rather than overhanging the inside face of the plate.
MAXIMUM SLOPE
- All roof details are valid to 12/12 slope max., unless otherwise noted.
VENTILATION
- Perforated or drilled 1 1/2" knockout holes at 12" o.c. may be used for cross-ventilation of joist space. For specific requirements, consult a ventilation expert.
PROTECT BCI JOISTS FROM THE WEATHER
- BCI joists are intended for protected applications and should be kept dry.
See Floor Details and Roof Framing Diagram for nailing requirements and additional notes.
