FLOOR SPAN TABLE NOTES
- Live load values are based on deflection of L/480. To calculate deflection limits of L/360 and L/960, multiply the live load by 1.33 and .50 respectively.
- Total load limits joist deflection to L/240.
- Load capacity assumes the absence of composite action from sheathing. (Nailed only, no glue).
- Values represent the most restrictive of simple or multiple-span applications
- To size a joist for use in a floor, check on live load and total load. Where live load is not shown, size according to total load.
- For assistance with floor design, consult the section entitled About Floor Performance.
- Span tables are based on shear values for minimum bearing lengths without web stiffeners for BCI depths of 16 inch and less. See BC Calc software for higher shear values using web stiffeners or wider bearing lengths.
