Single or Double Leaf Scuttles for Large Openings
Special size scuttles are available in steel or aluminum. Type SS single leaf scuttles
are recommended for widths up to 5'0" (1 524mm). For wider openings, Type D
double leaf design should be specified. For best operation, specify aluminum for
larger sizes [single leaf over 3'0" (914mm) wide, double leaf over 7'0" (2135mm)
wide].

Plate Construction for applications requiring extra security
SPECIFICATIONS: Roof scuttle shall be Security Series Type___ size___as
manufactured by The Bilco Company. Cover shall be 3/16" (4.76mm) steel* [or
aluminum] with full welded corners. Insulation shall be glass fiber 1" (25.4mm) in
thickness, fully covered and protected by a 14 gauge (1.9mm) steel [or 11 gauge
(2.3mm) aluminum] liner. Cover shall be equipped with a factory installed detention
deadlock [specify manufacturer and model #] mounted with security fasteners to a
1/4" (6.35mm) internal mounting plate. When required, specify cover to be equipped
with a factory installed 8" x 8" (203mm x 203mm) bullet resistant view window
[specify ballistic rating for glazing] mounted in angle frame flush with top surface of
the door leaf. Curb shall be 12"(305mm) in height and of 3/16" (4.76mm) steel* [or
aluminum]. It shall be formed with a 3 1/2" (89mm) flange with holes provided for
securing to the roof deck. Curb shall be equipped with an integral metal capflashing
of 14 gauge (1.9mm) steel [or 11 gauge (2.3mm) aluminum], full welded at the
corners for weathertightness. Insulation on the exterior of the curb shall be rigid
fiberboard 1" (25.4mm) in thickness. Scuttle shall be completely assembled with
heavy duty manganese bronze hinges with stainless steel welded pins, compression
spring operators enclosed in telescopic tubes and thermoplastic rubber gasket.
Cover shall be equipped with an automatic hold open arm complete with red vinyl
grip handle to permit easy release. All hardware shall be zinc plated and chromate
sealed. Factory finish shall be red oxide primer [For aluminum substitute: "mill finish
aluminum"]. Installation shall be in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
Manufacturer shall guarantee against defects in material or workmanship for a
period of five years.
