"DSH" Double Leaf Fire Vent
Automatic fire vents illustrated and described on this page are approved by Factory
Mutual Research Corporation and Listed by Underwriters Laboratories. For other
sizes or for modified vents, such as explosion, electric, motorized or winch
operation, Type SV or D-SV should be specified.
SPECIFICATIONS: Type DSH. Furnish and install where indicated on the plans,
automatic Fire Vent Type DSH, size___as manufactured by The Bilco Company.
Covers shall be 14 gauge (1.9mm) paint bond G-90 galvanized steel [or 11 gauge
(2.3mm) aluminum] with 3" (76mm) beaded flange and formed reinforcing members
welded to support a minimum live load of 40 lb/ft2 (195 kg/m2). Insulation shall be of
glass fiber, 1" (25.4mm) in thickness, fully covered and protected by a 22 gauge
(.8mm) paint bond G-90 galvanized steel [or 18 gauge (1.0mm) aluminum] cover
liner. Curb shall be of 14 gauge (1.9mm) paint bond G-90 galvanized steel [or 11
gauge (2.3mm) aluminum], 12" (305mm) in height. Curb shall be formed with a
3-1/2" (89mm) flange with holes for securing to the roof deck and with an integral
metal capflashing of the same gauge and material as the curb, full welded for
weathertightness. Capflashing shall be equipped with the Bilclip™ flashing system,
including stamped tabs and Pak-Rope. Insulation on the exterior of the curb shall be
rigid fiberboard 1" (25.4mm) in thickness. All hardware shall be zinc plated and
chromate sealed. Factory finish shall be red oxide primer on steel [or mill finish
aluminum]. Vent shall be completely assembled with a Thermolatch positive
hold/release mechanism designed to hold the covers in the closed position against
30 lb/ft2 (146 kg/m2) wind uplift forces without overstressing the fusible link. Each
cover shall have a minimum of three heavy pintle hinges, EPDM rubber gasket,
heavy duty shock absorbers and pull handles for inside and outside operation.
Compression spring operators enclosed in telescopic tubes shall be provided to
open the covers to the vertical position where they will lock automatically. Vent shall
open automatically when heat breaks the 165 degrees F (74 degrees C) UL Listed
fusible link and shall be labeled as being FM Approved or UL Listed. Installation
shall be in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Manufacturer shall
guarantee against defects in material or workmanship for a period of five years.
Contractor shall test for proper operation after installation by fusing the link and a
replacement fusible link shall be furnished with the vent.
"D-SV" Special Double Leaf Fire Vent
Same specifications as Type DSH except: - Omit reference to UL Listed or FM
Approved - For vents modified for motorized or winch operation omit reference to
Thermolatch mechanism.
