SPECIFICATIONS- Type J, JD Access door shall be Type size - as manufactured by The Bilco Company. Door leaf shall be 1/4" (6.35mm)
steel [or aluminum] diamond pattern plate to withstand a live load of 300 lb/ft2 (1464 kg/M2) with a maximum deflection of 1/150th of the
span. Channel frame shall be 1/4" (6.35mm) steel [or aluminum] with an anchor flange around the perimeter and have a minimum
cross-section area of 7-1/2 in2 (4839mm2) to allow for adequate water drainage. Door shall be equipped with heavy forged brass hinges
having 3/8" (9.53mm) minimum diameter stainless steel pins and pivot so that the cover does not protrude into the channel frame.
Compression spring operators enclosed in telescopic tubes shall be provided for smooth, easy and controlled door operation throughout the
entire arc of opening and closing. Operation shall not be affected by temperature. The door shall automatically lock in the vertical position by
means of a heavy steel hold-open arm with release handle. A Type 316 stainless steel snap lock with a gasketed cover plug and removable
turn handle shall be provided. A 1-1/2" (38mm) drainage coupling shall be located in the front right corner of the channel frame. Hardware
shall be zinc plated and chromate sealed* and all fasteners shall be Type 316 stainless steel. Factory finish shall be prime coat of red oxide
applied to steel doors and frames. [For aluminum, substitute "Mill-finish with bituminous coating applied to exterior of the frame."] Installation
shall be in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Manufacturer shall guarantee against defects in material or workmanship for a
period of five years. For highly corrosive conditions, when so specified, Type J and JD are available with Type 316 stainless steel hardware
throughout.
