Bomanite Corp. Technical Bulletins Integral Color Tech Bulletin

The Paving Innovators
| INTEGRAL COLOR |
Technical
Bulletin |
Bomanite Integral Colors consist of colored admixtures and
are developed for use in ready-mixed concrete. The product is made of the highest quality
pigments, as well as other ingredients designed to enhance the color and improve the
pigment dispersion, workability and finishing performance of the concrete. No fillers are
used in Bomanite Integral Colors. This coloring method can be used with the installation
of Bomanite and Bomacron cast-in-place colored, textured and imprinted concrete paving and
flooring. However, Bomanite Color Hardener must also be used (see Bomanite Color Hardener
Technical Bulletin for more information). This method can also be utilized for other
colored concrete flatwork applications (salt finishes, broom finishes, rotary finishes),
as well as vertical surfaces and other types of architectural concrete. Four to five inch
slumps are recommended. Higher slumps should be achieved by using water reducing or
plasticizing admixtures, NOT by adding water. The addition of extra water to the mix will
affect the uniformity of the color. Uneven curing and/or rapid drying of the concrete will
also affect the uniformity of the color. The use of Bomanite Color Cure is recommended.

| Maintenance |
It is highly recommended to
develop and follow a routine maintenance schedule for all colored concrete so that it will
maintain a top quality appearance. Every 18 to 36 months, colored concrete installations
should be inspected, cleaned and resealed as required by volume and intensity of traffic.
Contact your local Bomanite contractor for the proper maintenance program in your area, as
the need will vary depending on a number of factors including traffic conditions,
geographical location and weather. |
| Limitations |
Variations can be expected due to
job site conditions, finishing techniques, use of sealers and slight raw material color
drifts. Consistency of color of cement and aggregates as well as the content of the
concrete mix design is critical in achieving uniform color from batch to batch. Integrally
colored concrete is limited to lighter, more pastel colors and is not as brilliant as
color hardened surfaces. Do not use with concrete mixes containing calcium chloride. |
