PROTECTING YOUR INVESTMENT

The coating on a metal panel provides more than an attractive appearance - it also provides protection for that panel.

Panel coatings are tested for abrasion, resistance, adhesion, color match, gloss, hardness, impact resistance, fineness of grind, hiding power, viscosity, density, thickness and a variety of environmental characteristics.

Every batch of paint is tested and approved before being used on your building.

ENSURING REAL-WORLD PERFORMANCE

The Testing Laboratory performs quality control of materials and components, and investigates new materials, parts and processes. For example, the use of environmental testing equipment enables the staff to predict actual field performance of a product and helps ensure that the products on your new building will stand up to weathering and age. Every supplier to Butler is rigorously tested on an ongoing basis.

  1. This test uses hydraulic pressure (arrows indicate direction of applied pressure) to measure the load bearing capacity of Delta Joist structural members, and determines how much load the system can withstand before buckling occurs. This provides important data necessary for steel structural design.
  2. This test measures the fading and chalking effects of sunlight and dew accumulation on the Butler-Cote ® 500 Finish System. The 1000-hour test equates to 20 years worth of South Florida sunshine.
  3. This test measures the ultimate wind-induced uplift that a Butler roof panel is able to withstand. Butler also has the capacity to perform tests in accordance with Factory Mutual, Corps of Engineers, Underwriters Laboratories and ASTM E 1592 test specifications.
  4. This test measures the general effects of salt spray on the Butler-Cote ® 500 Finish System.
  5. Using a combination of water, sulfur dioxide gas and heat, this test simulates an acid-rain environment. The long-term resistance of color pigments to acidic conditions is measured.
Butler only uses acid-resistant pigments in its panel coatings.
