Color him skeptical: Radiance transforms doubter
into believer
 |
New Mexico-based
specifier Robert H. Mallory shows off his Radiance-covered wall and lower energy bills. |
If you look up the word "skeptic" in the
dictionary, you just might find a picture of Robert Mallory. The New Mexico-based
specifier for an architectural firm constantly receives pitches to try new products, many
of which promise outlandish results. Mallory has heard just about every claim under
the sun.
"When the ChemRex rep told me about Radiance, I thought it was
the biggest bunch of hooey," he says. "When I hear about products that promise
magical results, I usually just shrug them off. But I was so doubtful that Radiance
would deliver, I actually tried it, just to prove them wrong."
Mallory applied Radiance to the ceiling and one wall of the
living room and all four walls and ceiling of a bedroom in his uninsulated Albuquerque
condominium. The results, he says, have made him a believer.
"It is absolutely amazing," Mallory says.
"The living room is three or four degrees cooler than the rest of the house, and the
bedroom I applied with Radiance is probably six degrees cooler than the other
bedroom."
Mallory says he hasn't had to run his air conditioning all
summer, which has resulted in energy savings of around $70 dollars a month. And last
winter, Radiance got rid of the cold air wash Mallory was used to on his walls.
Mallory estimates he'd save around $120 dollars in heating and cooling bills every month
if he applied Radiance to his whole condominium, which is exactly what he plans to do.
"It just makes sense," he says.
Why not Radiance?
When Tim and Beth Kendrick purchased a historic bed and
breakfast in Kendallville, Ind., they knew it would be the investment of a lifetime.
For it to pay off, they not only had to commit to significant refurbishment costs and long
hours of work, but also to finding just the right products to accentuate the brilliant
architecture.
"It was built in 1928," Tim Kendrick says.
"It's like a museum since no one has messed with it until now."
So when they heard about a wall finish that would not only
preserve the authenticity of the structure and its classical features, but save on the
energy bills, the Kendricks were very interested. |
