BERYLEX Specifications for Recapping
    Sidewalks - Slabs --- Casting to Grade

GENERAL:

Toppings Over 1" thickness - All concrete shall contain a minimum of 5.5 sacks of Type 1 Portland cement per cubic yard where 1/2" or larger aggregates are used.

Toppings Under 1" Thickness - All grout topping mixes shall contain a minimum of 6.5 sacks of Type 1 Portland cement per cubic yard where 3/8" or finer aggregates are used.


PREPARATION OF SURFACE:

1.  Clean old surface of grease, oil, scale and other contaminants.
2.  Acidify or grind off any smooth hard trowelled surface - to exposes clean sound sand and aggregate.
3.  Grind all surfaces down at least 1/4" if silicone "waterproofers" are present in old slab.
4.  For heavy wheel loadings, allow 1/2" minimum thickness for new topping where it abuts existing slab.
5.  Soak old concrete with water for at least 8 hours.

BONDING:

Before recapping starts, splash diluted BERYLEX LIQUID over the old concrete. Just before actual placement of the topping, hand broadcast neat cement and scrub vigorously into the pores with a stiff broom. This bonding slurry or priming must be done just ahead of the topping placement. The cement BERYLEX combination should have a heavy bodied paint consistency.

RECAPPING MIX:

All mixes require a minimum of 16 ounces of BERYLEX LIQUID per sack of cement. Do not exceed 6" slump.
General Heavy Duty.-  16 - 24 ounces of BERYLEX LIQUID per sack of cement. Do not exceed a 6" slump.
Acid/Alkali Resistance -  24 - 32 ounces of BERYLEX LIQUID per sack of cement. Do not exceed a 4" slump.

Is used to make BETTER concrete - Not to replace cement BERYLEX cannot correct human errors or man failures.
