| The operating rooms at the Carolinas Medical
Center are the largest hard-seam installation of CORIAN® in
the world. Typically, batten strips are used on either the face of the wall or hidden by
countersinking them on the back of the wall. For the project, DuPont developed a
butt-joint system which allows a seamless installation without batten strips over the
seam. Quarter-inch-thick (six-millimeter)panels of CORIAN® are prejoined into 60"-wide (1.5-meter) panels. Permanent, impermeable, hygienic joints are formed using CORIAN® joint adhesive. Panels are then adhered directly to drywall. Additional hard seams are created on-site. Silicone expansion joints are required only at 90-degree wall joints. Corners are completely sealed, giving germs and bacteria nowhere to hide. Silicone seams are also used for transitions to vinyl abase cove and ceiling. |

Technology changes, CORIAN® adapts |
| When an outdated piece of equipment that penetrates the wall surface is removed or relocated, the same butt-joint system used to join panels can be used to restore walls to original appearance. Repairs are as inconspicuous, impermeable and as hygienic as the original CORIAN® panels. |

When technology inevitably changes...

...and leaves an unsightly, unhygienic hole in an operating room wall...

....CORIAN® surfaces can be easily restored in a
way
that's inconspicuous, impermeable and hygienic.
