Cladding with CORIAN® is an ideal way to turn an ordinary concrete column into a classic. In this example, well clad a round column.
1 Measure the maximum diameter of the concrete column. 2 Prepare semicircular wooden frames in pairs, with half-circles of 1/4" (6mm) plywood and squared conventional lumber 2 x 2s (40mm x 40mm). 3 Cover both wooden frames with 1/8" (3mm) flexible plywood. 4 Thermoform two sheets of 1/2" (13mm) CORIAN® so their inner radii match the outer radii of the wooden frames.
5 Attach the wooden frames to the columns. Be sure to allow room for expansion between the wooden frames. Insert additional support or shimming between the concrete column and the wooden frame for a snug fit. 6 Adhere thermoformed CORIAN® sheets to the wooden frames with Glidden Meco Bond or 3M High Bond tape. Be sure to position the CORIAN® sheets so that they bridge the expansion gaps of the wooden frames. 7 Join the CORIAN® sheets with CORIAN® joint adhesive, then sand and finish.
