LA FONTAINE
RESIDENCE

"good composition, crisp details, good use of concrete that defines the
exterior edges and is used for interior walls as well"
The Jury
This unusual 7 200 square foot structure is a
custom, single family residence. Completed over a four year period at a cost of
$4,500,000, the two story home uses reinforced concrete to create a unique geometric and
durable structure.
An overall objective was to separate public and private spaces. This
was accomplished by containing the private functions in cubic frameworks within a larger
rectilinear mass and by designing secluded areas on the second floor. Public areas sprawl
across the ground floor. This design concept is continued at the basement level and
exterior for recreation amenities including pool, pool changing area, reflecting pool,
gymnasium area and terraces.

Reinforced concrete and wood combined to form the structural framing
system. Concrete walls accomplished separation of public and private spaces and enhanced
the home's modern impact.
Concrete is also used as the finish material in the changing room at
the reflecting pool/sculpture garden, giving the area at the basement level a sense of
accessibility, yet maintaining privacy. The minimalist texture and finish of the concrete
creates a stark elegance that accentuates the structure's exciting geometry.
