A Property Standard for providing guest comfort and safety
"CUSH 'N' SEAL": A patented gasketing for light, sound and smoke. The DHSI patented products are chosen as a standard because
competitive products can be observed in the field as not capable of sealing a door and frame even though the opening may be within
allowable manufacturing and installation standards (warp, plumb, etc). It can be observed that these same conditions allow considerable noise
to pass a frame. This year NFPA80 (fire doors) has adopted NFPA 105 (smoke). This moves smoke from a "Recommended Guideline" to a
"Referenced Standard". Fire Marshall's can now reject openings based upon data such as from the ETC 96-100-2: "if any light passes the
frame perimeter, the opening should not be accepted as a Life Safety Product". A visual inspection by Quality Assurance can note that any
light passing a frame perimeter (exclusive of door bottom) is an unacceptable condition for noise, and smoke for Life Safety. The net result is
quieter rooms. "Cush 'N' Seal" has been further observed to quiet the slamming and chattering effect of doors with steel frames. Where a door
bottom is installed the DHSI Cap Sweep and the "Secur-A-Seal" automatic door bottom have also been tested as an operating system.
DHSI offers the highest level of assurance in the industry.
Why Performance Based Testing and a Support Program is the basis for Acceptable
Only a test which replicates the allowable tolerances for manufacturing and field installation and conducted as a fully operational unit can
assure the architect, contractor and installers that the "Opening protective" can be expected to perform under conditions expected to be found
in the field. No other manufacturer offers this level of assurance. The exclusive DHSI field support services relieves the distributor of having to
respond to field support problems for the closing, latching and sealing of doors. Resolving problems becomes a responsibility between DHSI
and the contractor. The COPYRIGHT illustrated installation forms allow the site supervisor to easily explain to installers of frames, doors,
hinges and locksets how to inspect for manufacturing errors; such as in machining for hinge backset. Another example is how to avoid
installation errors in attaching hinges to doors that might add to or even cause interference problems. DHSI is a manufacturer with field
experience!
Marketing and Distribution: DHSI patented products and field support services
The architect must specify that the GC should contact DHSI directly for pricing and the distributor should exclude these from their bid. The only
way to ensure that the support services are administered properly and the seals are priced competitively is on the basis of a National
Agreement with DHSI (contact: 716-235-8543). This ensures that the integrity of the Program and the products are coordinated. Satisfied
owners and guests also ensure repeat customers.
