Fire Labelling Guide - Hollow Metal Fire Doors

Why Choose W.C.G.S.
Wipe coat galvanized steel provides the extra margin of corrosion resistance while still
maintaining versatility at low cost.
Engineered to provide excellent paint adherence with no
special pre-painting treatment, wipe coat galvanized steel producers recommend that primer
painting not be used as it only encourages moisture entrapment.

ASTM Test Procedure D-1735: Test results above
wereconductedin standard humidity cabinet at 100% relative humidity at 100F The products
were not specially treated in any way. They were scored through to bare steel and exposed
in accordance with ASTM test procedure D1735 The complete failure of the electro
galvanized sample in dramatic contrast to the virtually compared wipe coat galvanized
steel. Conclusive results above clearly indicate the superior corrosion resistance of wipe
coat galvanized steel.
Wipe Coat Galvanized Steel
Salt - Fog Test on Painted Panels: In this test ASTM-B117
panels were subjected to a 5% NcCl non acidualted salt spray at 95F The pre treatment used
was a zinc phosphate and the paint was a two coat baked system with a modified silicone
alkyd top coat (10 mil total paint thickness). Even with a first class paint system
underfilm corrosion occurs on electro-galvanized steel much earlier than on wipe coat
galvanized steel.

Reasons to Specify Wipe Coat Galvanized Steel:
- Competetive to cold-rolled and elctro galvanized steel in
initial purchasing costs.
- Engineered to provide excellent paint adhesion eliminating
costly pre-painting treatments and primer painting.
- Life expectancy far exceeds cold rolled primer painted steel
(ASTM D2247 test procedure).
- Provides durability and overall minimal maintenance.
- Readily fabricated without damage to protective coating.
