MGM Grand Hotel

"The response from the public has been exceptional and everyone comments daily to the hotel clerks as they register, how magnificent the wall is. It truly has been a great asset to our front lobby. People are constantly taking photographs and I would venture to say that it has become a "must see" for all those who visit Las Vegas."

- Frank M. Coccaro, Videowall Supervisor MGM Grand Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada

Picture the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas the world's largest hotel, casino and theme park - and the word "amazing" comes to mind. From the flamboyance that distinguishes this 5000-room complex to every opulent amenity, the MGM Grand has been "wowing" guests for years. The excitement begins the moment guests enter the main lobby, when they catch their first glimpse of the 80-screen Electrosonic videowall.

Turning Vision Into Reality

MGM management was clear about their need for an innovative display: "We need something visual that will immediately grab the attention of our guests as they walk into the hotel." When a local video display dealer came into the picture, that request soon became a reality. MGM decided on an Electrosonic system after evaluating image quality, manufacturer/dealer support, and cost. Today, the MGM videowall is so well known that video buffs from around the world make it a point to visit it when they are in Las Vegas.

One of the world's largest hotel establishments, the MGM Grand can draw on internal resources to manage their videowall display. Frank Coccaro, the hotel's videowall supervisor, directs a small staff responsible for everything from maintenance to custom programming. In addition, Coccaro and his staff promote the wall to prospective clients who would enjoy and benefit from seeing their product or service displayed larger-than-life. While waiting in line, or simply walking through the lobby, literally millions of guests can be entertained by high-profile sponsors such as CBS, McDonald's, Mobil Oil, Redken, KFC, Honda, United Artists, Seagram's and many more.

High-Impact Technology

The compelling footage is handled masterfully with the help of Electrosonic technology. The videowall display is a configuration of five 4 x 4 screens, with an overall dimension of approximately 52' x 8'. The display's magic comes through brilliantly with Electrosonic's PROCUBE™, a super-bright video projection module designed for large, multi-screen applications. ProCubes' near-seamless picture quality provides the breathtaking realism, brilliance and clarity needed to maximize the impact of the MGM footage. the ProCubes are complemented by the innovative effects possible with Electrosonic's PICBLOC 3™ image processing system. PicBloc's processing capabilities and ease of use provide the creativity and freedom to create a variety of dazzling display effects. Up to 20 different image sources can be manipulated, positioned and sized to create unique displays, including fixed and  anamorphic magnifications, foreground and background freezes, wipes and more. MGM's exciting lobby videowall uses five PicBloc 3 processors.
