The Newseum Blue Screen Exhibit

elec19a.jpg (22139 bytes)
Designed by world- renowned museum designer Ralph Applebaum, the Newseum is the first interactive museum of news. It is housed in several floors of the Freedom Forum in Arlington, Virginia, the world's largest free speech organization.

Technical Marvels

Electrosonic engineering expertise brings the exhibit designs to life using a combination of traditional AV technology, a custom MPEG solution and high definition video. Two of the Newseum's highlights - the Video News Wall and the News History Gallery - are the most compelling and technically intricate exhibits on display.

Video News Wall

At 12 feet high and 126 feet long, the Video News Wall is the centerpiece of the Newseum. And no wonder: It is the longest continuous video surface in the world. The News Wall's video images and graphics present a swirling collage of information, imagery, and sound. Video images come from some 300 news sources around the world via 36 live satellite feeds.

Electrosonic developed new video processing hardware and custom software that allows the images to be sized and positioned by a programmer in real time. Images can also be enhanced with graphics and prerecorded video from any source.

The News History Gallery

A more traditional museum exhibit, the News History Gallery is a place to relive momentous news stories through exhibits and artifacts. It is one of the Newseum's largest exhibits and required a first-class AV and control system, all provided by Electrosonic.

Electrosonic used their expertise in hardware engineering and software development to create a well-integrated solution for the News History Gallery. The exhibit brings history's breaking news moments back to life with a combination of digital video, control systems, client-server networking, and human interface.
