FE Petro High Capacity Technical Advantages

The following is a list of features and technical advantages which define the FE Petro High Capacity product line, and reasons why the marketer would consider using FE Petro over competitive models. Additional information is available in the High Capacity section of our sales catalog.

  1. Pump Intake Screen
  2. The pump intake is equipped with a screen containing 3/32" (2.38 mm) openings to keep pea gravel sized particles and larger from entering the pump motor and piping system which would damage the pump and other system components if not screened.

  3. Motor Cooling
  4. This is accomplished by product being pumped around and through the motor. The motor is rated continuous duty as long as the pump intake is submerged. Product is pumped into motor bearings after passing through a bronze sintered filter to provide bearing cooling at all flow rates from zero flow to full pump capacity. Competitive units do not have a flow path through the motor bearings, thus requiring a minimum flow rate of 20 GPM (75 LPM) on 3 HP units, and 25 GPM (95 LPM) on 5 HP units to provide bearing cooling. On systems such as in retail car fueling applications where this minimum flow cannot be guaranteed, competitive make units require a bypass piping system be installed to guarantee this minimum flow rate per their installation instructions. The FE Petro bearing cooling system eliminates the added expense at installation of this bypass system.

  5. Service Features

FE Petro High Capacity pumps are removed from the tank by removing 8 bolts on the flange face of the pump head and lifting the pump from the tank using the two lifting eye bolts installed on the extractable portion of the pump. It is never necessary to disconnect conduit, disturb the electrical wiring or the piping system. The time required to remove an FE Petro High Capacity unit from the tank for service is a fraction of the time required to remove a competitive unit. Replacing the unit into the tank after service is a simple process of lowering the pump back into the tank by aligning the extractable portion back onto alignment pins, which aligns the 5 motor leads back into the respective male / female connections. The 8 bolts are then threaded back into place and tightened.

To remove a competitive unit from the tank, disconnect the electrical conduit, disconnect 5 wires in the junction box, remove the junction box from 1-1/4" conduit, remove an 8 inch "extractor nipple" seal plate and 8" diameter pipe nipple, turn the 1-1/4" conduit clockwise 1/4 turn, and fix a lifting device to the 1-1/4" conduit. Reinstallation requires re-connection of the electrical conduit and wiring which in some jurisdictions, may require a licensed electrician to perform.
