Roof Coatings and Cements

GAF Asphalt / Concrete Primer

DESCRIPTION: GAF Asphalt / Concrete Primer is a penetrating solution of select asphalt base in petroleum solvent. The primer readily penetrates the pores and seals dusty surfaces of masonry to provide a firm bond for asphalt coatings - hot or cold, cut-back or emulsion types.

USES: Use as a general priming coat over old smooth surface roofs and concrete, cinder block, brick and metal surfaces to which built-up roofing, waterproofing or other asphalt coatings are to be applied. Steel is also effectively prepared for asphalt protective coatings by the application of Asphalt/Concrete Primer. May also be used as a roof saturant.
Do not use GAF Asphalt/Concrete Primer as a finish coat on roofs.

APPLICATION: All surfaces to be primed with GAF Asphalt/Concrete Primer must be dry, swept clean, free of oil, grease, rust, scale, loose paint and dirt.

Stir thoroughly in the container before using. Apply by soft bristle brush, roller or suitable spray equipment. Application rate will depend on condition and porosity of surface to be primed, but in most cases 1/2 to 1 gallon per 100 sq. ft. will effectively condition most surfaces to receive an asphalt coating. For spray application, commercial grade spray equipment should be used.

GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement

Description: GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement is premium grade mastic compound designed for the construction of professional roof flashings and details. This material is a blend of selected asphalts, selected fillers and petroleum solvents. This product has a smooth, easy working consistency which adheres to wet or dry surfaces. GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement has excellent weathering resistance and provides excellent durability.

Uses: GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement is designed from the construction of base flashings, projections and flange flashing for pipes . An excellent sealant for counter-flashings and chimneys. Used where dissimilar materials must be joined and made water tight. Can be used on wet or dry surfaces. GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement can be used for repairing roof surfaces and for waterproofing and flashing where a heavy duty product is required. Because of its ability to bond to damp surfaces, it can be used for emergency repairs. GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement is designed for repairingleaks in most asphalt based roof systems.

Application: All surfaces to receive GAF Jetblak Premium Flashing Cement must be swept clean and free of oil, grease, rust, scale, loose paint and dirt.

This material is applied with an ordinary trowel. Apply in a thickness of 1/16" to 1/8". Apply liberally in joint areas, seams or cracks. Work material to a feather edge to allow surface drainage. Where possible, large repairs must be reinforced with roof felts or glass fabric.

GAF Aluminum Roof Paint

DESCRIPTION: GAF Aluminum Roof Paint is an asbestos-free, non-fibered asphalt aluminum coating. The aluminum pigment contained in the coating reflects damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun. GAF Aluminum Roof Paint can add years of life to the roof surface. GAF Aluminum Roof Paint helps to reduce interior temperature and protects the roof and roofing membrane by reducing heat absorption and asphalt oxidation.

USES: GAF Aluminum Roof Paint can be used as a protective coating on smooth surfaced built-up and properly prepared modified bitumen membrane. Not recommended over flood coats or glaze coats of asphalt, coal tar or fibered roof coating.

APPLICATION: Before applying to a dry surface, remove all loose dirt and debris from roof substrate. Wire brush all rusted metal. Repair all broken or rotted spots. Weathered roofs should be primed with a thin application of GAF Asphalt/Concrete Primer. For metal roofs, GAF Asphalt/Concrete Primer is also recommended for best results. Allow primer to cure thoroughly prior to application of aluminum coating. Apply GAF Aluminum Roof Paint directly over installed GAFGLAS¨ felts. Apply with good quality roof brush, long-napped roller or commercial grade spray equipment. Apply liberally, brushing in one direction only. Do not lap. Over brushing will interfere with leafing action of the aluminum.
