Sometimes a roof has to be more than a roof. Sometimes a roof has to be a balcony, a terrace, a sundeck, a promenade, a play area.
It used to be that the choice in roofing membranes for these applications was either a field-fabricated built-up waterproofing membrane of uncertain design, or an expensive proprietary waterproofing system that few contractors could install properly.
Now there is a third alternative: Ruberoid PlazaDeck Roofing, the roof system for more than roofing.

A Sound Substrate Roofing systems installed beneath surfacing materials that are designed for walkable roof applications have special substrate requirements. The roof deck or underlying insulation must be stable, without excessive deflection that would allow the walkable roof surface to move under normal usage. The roof deck/insulation must provide positive slope to drain, so that water does not collect either on the walkable roof surface or within the Ruberoid PlazaDeck assembly. In addition, the roof deck/insulation must provide a high compressive strength such that the roofing membrane will be fully supported at points of concentrated weight and impact.
