VHR SERIES VENTILATION/HEAT RECOVERY PACKAGES The VHR Series of Ventilation/Heat recovery packages provides heat recovery, make-up air and exhaust in a compact packaged design for rooftop or interior installation. Up to 80% of the exhausted energy can be recovered so that ventilation rates can be economically maintained even while energy costs continue to escalate. In new construction, the size of heating/ cooling equipment can be reduced, resulting in lower capital costs. FIGURE 1

Customer Benefits Economical - Substantial savings in operating and maintenance costs generally result in a pay-back period of two years or less. Simple to Operate- Remote control panel with operating switches provides year around operation. Easy to Service - Side access panels permit unobstructed entry for motor and filter maintenance. Quick Installation - Standard unit is delivered assembled and wired. Lightweight Rooftop Design - Suitable for Curb Mounting. Conserves valuable interior space without imposing undue structural problems. Optional Supplementary Heater or Cooling Coil tailored to available energy source. Completely Safe - Less than 1% of the exhaust products are transferred over to the supply air. Energy is recovered by means of a regenerative type rotary air-to-air heat exchanger, commonly called a heat wheel, depicted in Figure 1. A fractional horsepower motor slowly rotates the wheel between the exhaust and supply air streams flowing in opposing directions. The temperature difference between the supply and exhaust air streams allows the wheel to reclaim heating or cooling Btu's that would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere. The specially designed wheel utilizes a unique process in which alternating flat and corrugated sheets of aluminum are combined. Narrow flutes are formed to provide passages for maximum contact between heat exchanger and air supply. This construction produces a laminar flow heat exchanger with an exceptionally large heat transfer surface, approximately 500 square feet of transfer area per cubic foot of heat exchanger. High efficiency results from the combination of large surface area and slow wheel rotation. Depending on the treatment applied to the aluminum wheel surface, either sensible heat or sensible plus latent heat (moisture) may be recovered. Two VHR series models are available to meet the needs of a vast variety of applications: VHRS- A general purpose unit with bondex coated wheel for recovery of sensible heat in non-corrosive exhaust applications up to 150'F. VHRE - A model with a desiccant coated wheel for recovery of both sensible and latent heat in air conditioned buildings or corrosive exhaust applications. Standard Features
