TECHNICAL
Reflected image distortion is inherent to some degree in all heat treated glass.
Horizontally heat treated glass develops roller wave distortion as it travels through the
oven. If a particular direction of distortion is required, it must be clearly stated on the
purchase order.
Overall bow and warp, and kink are also typical of heat treated glass and can result in
some reflected image distortion. Iridescence (strain pattern) is inherent in heat treated
glass; under certain lighting conditions or at certain angles, it is more pronounced.
Heat treated glass meets the requirements of ASTM C 1036 (supersedes Fed. Spec.
DD-G-451 d), ASTM C 1048 (supersedes Fed. Spec. DD-G-1403B), ANSI Z97.1 and
CPSC Standard 16 CFR 1201.
