HGP Insulating Glass
The word on HGP Insulating Glass Units is comfort - and energy control. Insulating Glass Units are hermetically sealed combinations of two or more lites of most available glass types and thicknesses. Insulating Glass Units reduce building heating and cooling costs, conserve energy in today's building designs or retrofits of older buildings, reduce indoor condensation and provide increased personal comfort. REFLECTIVE PRODUCTS Insulating Glass Units can be built with coated glasses (LOF ECLIPSE, PPG SOLARCOOL, FORD SUNGLASS) with the coating in the #1 or #2 position. Various tinted reflective substrates result in a variety of aesthetic and performance characteristics TINTED AND CLEAR PRODUCTS For applications that do not require the aesthetics or performance of reflective glasses, HGP Insulating Glass Units are available with an outboard lite of Clear, Bronze, Gray, Green, Blue, Blue Green, Azurlite, Evergreen, Solargreen, Starphire or Graylite float glass. Tinted and clear products have the highest visible and solar transmittance, and the lowest outdoor reflectance. LOW E GLASS HGP offers Low E Glass insulating units for controlling energy by admitting visible light while blocking long-wave radiation. The secret is the thin low emissivity high-transmittance metallic coating. This reflection, or reduction of emittance, is five times better than that of clear glass. Low E glass will reduce the heat flow from an inside area to the cold exterior in the winter. Heat gain from the outside air and solar heat absorbed in tinted glass is reduced in the summer. We recommend the use of a pyrolithic Low E coating, one that is applied during the glass manufacturing process. This means a more durable surface, efficient energy control and lasting beauty. GAS FILLING In order to improve the thermal and acoustical performance of insulating glass, especially the U- Values, gas filling of HGP insulating units is available. A decrease of thermal conductivity U- value is achieved with gas filling. HGP utilizes argon, a non-toxic inert gas, for this purpose. INSULATING GLASS-SPANDREL Insulating Glass Spandrel Units can be made with the same exterior glass as used in Insulating Glass Vision Units when it is desirable to retain the visual continuity of a given glass type over the entire face of a building. This applies to all glass types including tinted, and reflective glasses. Insulating Glass Spandrel Units are made with an inboard lite of ceramic spandrel glass. The outboard lite must be heat strengthened or tempered to withstand the higher thermal stresses typical of spandrel areas. For additional information on color choices and technical data please refer to our Spandrel Glass Brochure TECHNICAL INFORMATION HGP certifies that the insulating glass units are constructed according to the specimens passing the highest level (Class CBA) of the ASTM E 773/E 774 Specification. The tests are validated by the insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC) which sponsors the certification program. HGP is a member of the Sealed insulating Glass Manufacturing Association (SIGMA) as well as the IGCC. |
