| LAMINATED GLASS Laminated glass is installed to provide safety enhance security,
reflect heat or absorb sound. This highly versatile, durable glass incorporates two pieces
of clear, tinted or reflective glass with a tough polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer that
creates a single, solid construction when heat and pressure are applied. When the glass is
broken it normally adheres to the plastic interlayer reducing the hazard of falling glass
while maintaining the integrity of the structure.
Laminated glass is used in a variety of ways, including
skylights, atriums, storefronts, jewelry displays, financial institutions, airports,
libraries and broadcast booths to name only a few. The strength of the glass and its sound
control characteristics are used for many architectural purposes, including noise
reduction, reducing risk of injury in heavy traffic areas or discouraging crime.
