Panel Preparation

Panels should be separated and exposed to application environment for 24 hours, The 8' x 12' panels should be pre-conditioned by sprinkling with water and stocked wet side up overnight.

Framing Instructions

For sidewall sheathing, siding, ceilings, soffits, barricades, etc., provide support for all edges and throughout the panel field with framing not to exceed 16" on center with 1/2" 440 and up to 24" o. c. for 5/8" 440. Panels should be applied vertically to the framing with blocking or plates at the top and bottom of the panel. Otherwise, install cross blocking at horizontal points to provide a solid nailing base.

Panel Application

Apply 440 panels directly to the proper framing. Leave 3/16" - space at all panel side joints and leave 1/4" space at all panel end joints. Leave nails back 1/4" from all edges. For interior application, the spacing between panels can be somewhat reduced. Nail panel 4"- 6"on center along panel edges and 10"- 12" on center at intermediate supports.  Nail from field center out to edges. Use 6d nails for 1/2" 440 and 8d nails for 5/8" 440.
For exterior application use weather resistant nails and apply wood or metal to battens over each joint.

Sidewall Nailable Sheathing

For direct application of wood and composition shingles, use ring drive nails of sufficient length to penetrate entirely through 440 board.   Follow recommendations for shingle or siding manufacturers in all respects.

Panel Finish

Joints can be covered with most any kind of wood, metal or vinyl moldings. Most any type of finish may be applied to either side of the panel depending on desired texture.

Carpet Board Underlayment Over Wood Sub-Floor

Panel should be separated and exposed to application environment for 24 hours. Apply panels 4' x 4' for easy handling. Leave 3/16" space around each 4' x 4' panel. Keep panels 3/8" away from all walls and partitions. Use proper length underlayment ring drive nails to penetrate subflooring 1" minimum. Nail panel edges 4"- 6" on center and 8"- 10" on center throughout panel field. Keep nails back 1/4" from all edges of panel. For adhesive application which reduces sound transmission, see Bulletin H- 8-252-6.

NOT All Sound Barriers Were Meant To Be Broken

SoundBarrier™ "Acoustical Control Systems are a series of construction specifications utilizing HOMASOTE PRODUCTS to provide a range of STC ratings in ceiling, wall and flooring applications.

Concrete must be above grade, dry and integrally waterproofed unless suspended. 440 panel size should be no larger than 4'x 4' All abutting sides of 440 underlayment must be spaced 3/16" apart. Keep panels 3/8" away from all walls and partitions. Apply underlayment panels with APA approved construction adhesive. Follow directions on the label.
