GENERAL CONSTRUCTION DATA
Temperature and humidity conditions closely approximating those which will exist when building is occupied shall be maintained before, during, and after the application of panels.

Installation shall not be made when building is excessively cold, hot, and/or damp. Precondition Comfort Base by separating panels and exposing to natural environments humidity for not less than 24 hours. During installation, all panel edges must be spaced 3/16" adjoining panels and 3/8" from all walls and partitions to allow for expansion and contraction. On runs over 50', provide 1/2" expansion joint. All panel joints must be staggered regardless of panel size. In all cases, either slab or concrete floor, the concrete must be dry prior to attachment. Comfort Base is not recommended for application in areas where moisture is present.

NOTE: Bowing of panels away from the grid side is normal prior to application.

Installation for use with Carpet and Pad
ComfortBase may be installed with carpet and pad using either method listed below.

Floating Method (no adhesive)

  1. 1/2" thick by 1 1/2" wide wood nailers shall first be nailed and/or glued to concrete at all locations where tackless strips are to be used.
  2. Lay panels in position, grid side down. Allow 48 hrs. prior to installation of carpet and pad.
  3. Tackless strips are nailed to the top of wood nailers followed by the installation of carpet and pad.

Adhesive Method

  1. 1/2" thick by 1 1/2" wide wood nailers shall first be nailed and/or glued to concrete at all locations where tackless strips are to be used.
  2. Apply a 3/8" bead of APA approved sub-floor adhesive meeting APA AFG-01 specification to the GRID SURFACE as shown in the"gluing Pattern" below.
  3. Apply adhesive 3/4" from edge around perimeter of ComfortBase over and place adhesive side down to concrete.
  4. Turn ComfortBase over and place adhesive side down to concrete.
  5. Apply pressure over the entire surface to assure the ComfortBase is set.
  6. After ComfortBase is set in place, it is recommended to stay off the material for 24-28 hours to allow the proper setting up of the decking adhesive.
  7. Tackless strips are nailed to the top of wood nailers, followed by the installation of carpet and pad.

Installation for use with Adhered Carpets (Not recommended for Rubber or Foam Backed Carpets or Carpet Tiles)

  1. Follow 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 of "Installation for use with Carpet and Pad."

  2. After a minimum of 48 hours, fill 3/16" spacing between panels with a quality interior floor patch.

  3. Apply carpet adhesive and carpet to Comfort Base following manufacturer's instructions.

Installation for use with vinyl, Wood Parquet, Wood Strip Flooring and Ceramic Tile

  1. Follow 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of "Installation for use with Carpet and Pad"

  2. Apply 4' x 4' (max.) sheets of 3/8" or greater thickness of plywood of suitable underlayment grade (lauan or equal) over ComfortBase.

  3. Attach plywood to ComfortBase, assuring that plywood joists do not coincide with ComfortBase joists, by trowling a subfloor adhesive meeting APA AFG-01 specification over ComfortBase in a 100% coverage fashion. Place plywood into adhesive and mechanically fasten the four corners and center of 4' x 4' panels through ComfortBase and into concrete subfloor, a minimum of 1". Mechanically fasten plywood additionally in any areas not lying down flat into adhesive.

  4. After plywood is set in place, it is recommended to stay off the material for 24-28 hours to allow the proper setting up of the construction adhesive.

  5. Install above floor coverings according to manufacturer's instructions.

*NOTE: Must be suitable thickness and grade acceptable to finish flooring manufacturer.
