finishes
The prefinished surface is a veneer of genuine, natural color, virgin cork. The distinctive surface
provides an appealing decorative paneling. The cork surface is laminated to one side or both sides
of the substrate.
uses
Tackable, decorative Nova Panels in 4' x 8' size Nom. or cut to size 18 x 24 - 24 x 36 - 36 x 48 Nom.
are used in schools, hospitals, offices and anywhere that requires quality, durable, tackable, fire
rated panels. Nova Cork Panels in 4 x 8 size are fire rated Class B and are available Class A. Cut
to size panels are Class B fire rated.
advantages
Nova Cork paneling is a completely finished, structural panel. On-site surface treatment is not
required. It is lightweight, easy to work, and the surface is unique and exclusive. Cork is noise-
deadening and provides extra insulation when used to panel peripheral wall or ceilings. The
tackable surface conceals tack or pinholes. The substrate will not crack or splinter. It is moisture
resistant, and protected against termites, rot and fungi. Homasote black or white trim and joint
molding are available.
material composition
Nova Cork paneling is composed of three basic elements: cork veneer surface, bonding adhesive,
and substrate. The bond is made with a waterproof adhesive applied to the substrate in a
continuous uniform coating. The substrate is Homasote Structural Building Board made from 100%
recycled newsprint. It is a homogeneous composition, treated for resistance to moisture, protection
against termites, rot and fungus and compressed into high density, structural panels.

general construction data
Illustrated installation instructions are given in Homasote Bulletin No. IP-8-222-1. This bulletin
details the Homasote approved installation requirements and step-by-step procedure The following
information is for product evaluation only. |
Construction Site Storage - Protect Nova Cork Panels, as any valuable building product, from
inclement weather by storing indoors or on a dry platform under shelter. Keep wrapped in
packaging until ready for use. If no shelter is available, stack panels on skids 8" above grade and
cover with polyfilm or other device. Panels must be installed in a dry condition only.

|
Finished Decorative Cork Boards Create and Expand Into a
Decorative, Tackable and Functional Wall Unit (No moldings
necessary, all panel edges are bevelled.) |
Preparation for Use- Precondition by separating and allowing panels to stand exposed to normal
environmental humidity for 24 hours before installation.
As any quality wood building material, Nova Cork Panels will expand and contract with changes in
humidity. Joints must be gapped as detailed in Homasote Bulletin No. IP-8-222-1.
Framing- Interior Walls: not to exceed 16" o.c. Interior ceilings and soffits: not to exceed 12" o.c.
All edges must be backed by solid framing.
Installation - Nova Cork Panels may be installed direct to framing with nails or with APA approved
Paneling Adhesive by glue-nailing. For application refer to detailed instructions as shown in
Bulletin No. IP-8-222-1. |
finishing
Nova Cork Paneling is completely finished and does not require surface treatment. The colorful,
naturally textured surface will last for many years without noticeable deterioration or fading.
Homasote joint and trim moldings in low lustre black or white are available for a neat, professional
finish. These moldings include: cap, inside and outside corners, and "H'' for butt joints.
maintenance
The natural surface does not require painting and its appearance can be kept fresh and clean with
negligible maintenance. Soils or grime can be removed with soap or detergent and water. Do not
flood. Use a wet (not soaked) rag, sponge or soft bristled scrub brush. Remove soap or detergent
using a clean cloth or sponge wet with clean water. Do not flood. Exposure to U/V light will cause
color shading.
availability
Homasote building products are available throughout the United States and Canada from local
