System Components
The Excel Fire Management System consists of three major elements:
- Fire Command Station displays sensor zones in alarm. A
firefighter at this command station can control system functions,
provide instructions to building occupants and communicate with
other firefighters.
Audio Cabinet houses audio system components, including
alarm tone generator, a prerecorded message unit and power
amplifiers.
Remote Communication Devices complete the system.
These include speakers to provide audio messages and
emergency telephone jacks for firefighter handsets.

Firefighter Control Functions
The Excel Fire Management System provides enhanced firefighter
control functions in addition to the supervised alarm-detection and
alarm-signaling features available on the Excel FS90 Controller.
- HVAC override selection provides status indication and
centralized manual control of fans and dampers to respond to
changing smoke and fire conditions.
Local security system override permits central release of
electrically locked doors.
Programmable control capabilities extend control over other
building systems, including elevator capture, municipal trip, door
holder release, and remote station transmission.

Audio Functions
The Excel Fire Management System is designed to enhance the
safety of building occupants and firefighters by providing high quality
emergency audio communications.
- Digitized voice messages automatically provide clear,
predetermined instructions to building occupants in response
to alarm conditions.
- Selective public address allows the operator to send a tone,
message or voice page to any or all zones. Specific
instructions or evacuation messages can be relayed to
different building locations, depending on conditions.
- Common or selective communication circuits provide fire
command with a "party line" telephone system or with
independently selected telephone lines to ensure rapid
emergency response by firefighters.
- Remote telephone page allows firefighters to make pages
over the speaker system from remote telepone handsets.
- Dual-channel operation permits two different outgoing tone
or voice messages to be directed to different locations
simultaneously.
- Automatic switching to backup tone generator and
preamplifier ensures reliable operation in the event of a
component failure.
- Wiring configurations can be selectively applied to permit
central or distributed audio amplifiers.
