HORNER

    SAFE™ SUSPENDED SYSTEMS

SAFE™ SLEEPER SYSTEM

The SAFE™ Sleeper System incorporates a 2" x 3" x 4' (nominal) sleeper, treated with Woodlife F, and padded with five SAFE™ Pads. As with all SAFE™ Systems the performance characteristics can be selected from any of the twelve possible pad/insert combinations.

MATERIALS - SAFE SLEEPER SYSTEM

  1. Finish Flooring: 25/32" or 33/32" thick x 1 1/2" or 2 1/4" wide, continuous tongue and groove and end-matched Horner Northern Hard Maple, treated with WOODLIFE F preservative if so specified.
  2. SAFE™ Sleepers: 2" x 3" x 4' (nominal) SPF regular or R-1, kiln dried and treated with WOODLIFE F preservative, and padded with either 7/16" or 3/4" SAFE™ pads. Optional Horner R-I sleepers notched to accept Horner R-I galvanized retainer or R-II sleepers predrilled to accept retaining pin, when so specified.
  3. Wall Base: 3" x 4" Ventcove heavy duty molded, vented vinyl base with premolded outside corners and mitered inside corners.

SLAB DEPRESSION

  • Concrete slab depression when using 7/16" SAFE™ pads shall be 2 11/16" for 25/32" thick flooring, and 2 15/16" for 33/32" thick flooring. For 3/4" pads add 5/16" to the dimensions above.

SAFE SLEEPER SUBFLOOR SYSTEM

The SAFE™ Sleeper Subfloor system utilizes the same sleepers as does the SAFE™ Sleeper System, but a layer of either 15/32" plywood or 7/16" OSB is incorporated between the sleepers and the flooring. The subfloor ties the flooring together to help make the floor more uniform and help eliminate "dead spots".

MATERIALS - SAFE SLEEPER SUBFLOOR SYSTEM

  1. Finish Flooring: 25/32" or 33/32" thick x 1 1/2" or 2 1/4" wide, continuous tongue and groove and end-matched Horner Northern Hard Maple, treated with WOODLIFE F preservative, if so specified.
  2. SAFE™ Sleepers: 2"  3" x 4' (nominal) SPF kiln dried, treated with WOODLIFE F preservative, and padded with either 7/16" or 3/4" SAFE™ pads. Optional Horner R-I sleepers notched to accept Horner R-I galvanized retainer or R-II sleepers predrilled to accept retaining pin, when so specified.
  3. Subfloor: 15/32" APA-rated sheathing grade plywood, exposure 1, or 7/16" OSB.
  4. Wall Base: 3" x 4" Ventcove heavy duty molded, vented vinyl base with premolded outside corners and mitered inside corners.

SLAB DEPRESSION

  • Concrete slab depression when using 7/16" SAFE™ pads shall be 3 1/8" for 25/32" thick flooring, or 3 3/8" for 33/32" thick flooring. For 3/4" pads add 5/16" to the dimensions above..
SAFE PANEL SYSTEM

The SAFE™ Panel System incorporates two layers of either 15/32" sheathing grade plywood or 7/16" OSB with the SAFE™ pads stapled to the bottom layer. This system provides for an even greater degree of fine tuning of the performance characteristics by altering the spacing between the layers of plywood.

MATERIALS - SAFE PANEL SYSTEM

  1. Finish Flooring: 25/32" or 33/32" thick x 1 1/2" or 2 1/4" wide, continuous tongue and groove and end-matched Horner Northern Hard Maple, treated with WOODLIFE  F preservative, if so specified. OPTION: Horner MultiSport, 5/16" or 11/16" thick Second and Better Grade.
  2. Cushion Pads: 7/16" or 3/4" Horner SAFE™ pad.
  3. Subfloor: 15/32" x 4' x 8' APA-rated sheathing plywood, exposure 1, or 7/16" OSB.
Subfloor Restraints: Special R-II pin restraint, when so specified.
  4. Wall Base: 3" x 4" Ventcove heavy duty molded, vented vinyl base with premolded outside corners and mitered inside corners.

SLAB DEPRESSION

  • Concrete slab depression when using 7/16" SAFE™ pads shall be 2 1/8" for 25/32" thick flooring, or 2 3/8" for 33/32" thick flooring. For 3/4" pads add 5/16" to the dimensions above. For MultiSport flooring, subtract 1/4" from depression.
