Manufacturer's Recommendations
Proper selection, installation and
maintenance of door activating devices is critical to the safety of everyone who uses
automatic entrances. Horton Automatics offers many types and combinations of activating
devices to enhance the safe use of its automatic entrance products. Each sliding, swinging
or folding door should include a safety sensing system.
Activating Devices
Wave Microwave Motion Sensor
Horton Automatics Wave motion
sensor is available for all types of automatic doors, such as sliding, swinging, folding
and revolving doors. The aesthetically attractive ABS high impact plastic cover is vandal
and shock proof to protect the sensor against abuse. The sensor can be used up to heights
of 8' (2.5m) maximum and is easy to install and adjust.
Easily switches between bidirectional and
unidirectional for optimal configuration; can be set according to specific circumstances.
Angular adjustment of antenna for optimal
configuration can be set according to specific circumstances.
Adjustable pattern width for narrow or
wide door.
Digital microprocessor design ensures
reliable performance and operation.
Sliding Door Safety Sensing Systems
The choice of:
A. Basic System
The Wave sensor is mounted on the
header on each side of the door and two photoelectric safety beam sensors are mounted
24" (610) and 48" (1220) from the floor. The beams are installed in the sidelite
or frame and parallel the sliding door.

Basic System
B. Apex The Enhanced Sliding Door Sensor
System
The Apex Door Sensor System is an
intelligent system with a dedicated data link between the sensor and the door operator.
The Apex uses a combination of microwave technology to detect motion to open the door and
focused active infrared technology to detect presence in the door opening and hold the
door open until cleared. This combination of technology is housed in one sensor cover.
The Apex enhances safety, efficiency and
performance of an automatic sliding door. Microwave energy provides the ability to
determine traffic direction and quickly adapt to changes in the detection zone. The Apex
uses an adjustable antenna to determine detection zone size, permitting the electronic
sensitivity to remain at maximum. The microwave portion can be put in either bidirectional
or unidirectional mode.
Active infrared technology is used for
presence detection close to the door opening. A multifaceted prism is used to focus
infrared energy in a line on each side of the door and is always active unless the door is
closed.

Apex System
The Apex system uses one photoelectric
safety beam at 24" (610) from the floor.
The Apex installs quickly using a standard
telephone type connection between the sensor and door control. The unit sets up
automatically. The sensor uses digital circuitry, so there are fewer parts which in turn
lowers the cost of ownership. An alphanumeric display provides visual feedback on the
performance and setting of the system for easy diagnosis and fast troubleshooting.
The Apexs remote control transmitter
allows service technicians to easily adjust the individual sensor zones and the sliding
door operator. The transmitter, similar to those used to adjust television sets is used to
make adjustments easier, so the door is less likely to be out of service.
The sophisticated Apex cover
complements any environment. Its impact-resistant ABS plastic shell protects the unit from
accidents or vandalism. The Apex can be mounted up to 10 feet (3m) high to provide optimum
door coverage.
