PERFORMANCE TIP
Before selecting the type of partition you need, it's
important to know how the area to be divided will be used. That will tell you the
configuration and how much sound control is needed.
The acoustical performance of the partitions, however, will
only be as good as the room in which they are installed. For optimum performance, the room
must include flat, level floors, a level track suspended from a non-sagging structure, a
sealed and insulated plenum barrier, plumb end walls and indirect HVAC ducts. The American
society for Testing and Materials standard practice for Architectural Application and
Installation of Operable Partitions E557-E90 describes these requirements in depth and is
included in the booklet. Sound Control Performance of Operable Partitions. This
booklet and Hufcor's brochure, Understanding the Acoustics of Operable Walls, are
available free of charge through your local distributor.
How good is an STC rating?
Use the following chart for a rough idea what the various
STC levels mean. Note this is a very rough guide.

SEAL FORCE
Continuous seal force is required for maximum sound
control. Hufcor's quick-set mechanical seals exert upward and downward force to tightly
seal the panel. Full continuous pressure is achieved by a simple turn of the removable
waist-high activator. Because the seals are retractable, they don't wear out or leave rub
marks on ceilings or floors. And, Hufcor's And, Hufcor's lever closure panel exerts more
than 250 lbs. of force for tight panel-to-panel seal.
