Color-Crete - Page 6

Basic Use

Color-Crete is designed to be used in all cementitious materials, producing unlimited color effects. The primary applications are cast-in-place. slab on grade, precast, tilt-up, concrete pavers and roof tiles. Color-Crete also can be used in stucco, cast stone and plaster.

Composition

Increte's colors are pure synthetic iron oxide pigments, manufactured to the highest standards. They are high strength and uniform in color while exceeding ASTM C-979 specifications for integrally colored concrete. Color-Crete colors are light-fast, lime-proof and totally weatherproof, providing a permanent colorfast solution.

Packaging

Increte offers a variety of packaging. Batch -Ready© disintegrating bags contain precise measurement of pigment and are added to a Ready-Mix drum eliminating waste and human error. Batch-Ready© will disintegrate in the truck while providing totally uniform color, thus reducing color variations.

Note: Batch-Ready© bags are available in both 5 sack and 6 sack pre-measured bags. Measurement on front of color chart indicates per sack weights. Specify the number of sacks being used when placing the order.

Standard 50 lb. multiwall bas also are  available for all Color-Crete colors.

Increte Systems will custom package all colors from a few ounces up to super sacks of 2,000-3,000 lb. weights.

Specifications

By name ________________ and pigment # _______________. As manufactured by Increte at the rate of ____________ pounds per 94 lb. of cement.

Batching & Mixing Guide

Always use the same raw materials throughout the entire projects (sand, cement, aggregate and water). Deviation can or will affect the final color.

Slump should not exceed 5" and must be consistent from batch to batch (water content must be consistent from batch to batch). Higher water content can cause "light spots" or a washed-out look in the finished slab.

Do not use calcium chloride with Color-Crete integral color. Discoloration will occur.

Improved workability and increased durability from freeze thaw can be obtained by specifying 5% to 7% air content.

At batch plant:

1.  Add  50% of batch water to a clean truck.

2.  Load Batch-Ready Color-Crete bas in the truck, allow two (2) minutes mixing with water only at charging speed.

3.  Add cement, aggregate and remaining batch water. Continue mixing at charging speed for  minimum of five (5) minutes (allow three (3) minutes longer for pea gravel mixes).

Note: Short mixing times or small batches may prevent bags from disintegrating totally. Also, note sand-blasted or exposed aggregate finishes are better performed by opening and pouring Color-Crete pigment into truck without bag.

Placing, Finishing and Curing

Place all color-conditioned concrete on a thoroughly uniform compacted surface. Surface should be lightly dampened (no puddles). Concrete must be placed with consistent slump not exceeding 5" maximum.

Troweling may begin after bleed water evaporates. Concrete should be stiff or plastic before troweling or brooming.  Hard or late troweling will cause burns or dark spots.

Do not add water or other foreign materials to surface upon finishing or discoloration will occur.

For exterior installations, apply rotary, broom or other uniformly textured finish for both appearance and slip-resistance. Broom, rotary and rough finishes will usually cure more even-colored than smooth troweled surfaces.

Note: Do not place any foreign materials such as burlap, water, plastic, wood or paper on surface during curing process. Contact with foreign materials during curing will cause color variation.

Note: If uneven color occurs, use Increte Color-Crete stain sealer for uniform results.

Evaporation of water can cause a white hazy film (efflorescence) on the surface of concrete. Efflorescence is more noticeable on colored concrete surfaces giving the appearance of a chalky or faded look. This effect can be reduced or eliminated by proper curing and protection against water penetration.

Efflorescence can be removed with mild acid cleaners formulated to remove efflorescence. Follow manufacturer's cleaner instructions and test small area to insure product will not discolor or etch surface.
