the four mahogany types offered
Sapele is about the same hardness as red oak.
Also offered in a selected quarter sawn grade which yields a lustrous ribbon stripe
figure, Sapele makes a beautiful residential floor.
All three of the above mahoganies, when first installed, are a pale reddish-brown color
which over time, darkens to the traditional deep reddish-brown mahogany color.
Santos Mahogany, a hard mahogany type especially suited for commercial applications due to
its durability and stability, is our most popular mahogany. Unlike the other three types,
Santos Mahogany starts out a deep rich mahogany color which changes little over time. This
wood is also available in a selected quarter sawn grade for those seeking an understated
elegant look.
