TESTIMONIAL
Scots Long Life Fastener Improvements
and More from ITW Buildex
The Original Buildex Scots 300 series stainless steel hex washer head fastener has been
improved in several areas to enhance its metal building fastening function. These
improvements include a new paint adhesion system, improved head strength and additions to
the product family.
Metal building installers support the improvements. Mike Hoffman of JDM Roofing Company,
Inc. recently utilized the Original Buildex Scots on their Laurel Hill School project and
provided the following feedback. " The Scots fasteners held in the socket ( hands off
installation technique due to magnetic attraction ) and drilled very well. The Scots hex
washer head was very strong and did not experience any head separation in the tough lapped
purlin roof applications. Further, we were impressed with the paint adhesion over the 300
series stainless steel. "
The Original Scots not only provides the metal building installer with installation ease,
it also provides the premium in corrosion protection for the metal building manufacturer,
contractor and owner. Twenty plus years of field installation and extensive corrosion
tests have proven that the Scots 300 Series Stainless HWH will not corrode any in manner
(red or white corrosion). Recently, in May of 1999 inspections of the Tieman Lumber
building located in the severe corrosion environment of Taylor, Texas erected in 1967 by
Janecka Construction proved that Scots will not corrode. Further, new coatings have been
introduced to extend the brightness and life of metal roof panels. The 300 series
stainless in the Scots fastener provides the fastening solution for these improved metal
panel coatings.
The patented Scots head provides incredible strength during field installation preventing
separation from the fasteners shank. Testing has proven that the Scots head can withstand
up to 350 inch pounds of installation torque. Buildex is so confident with the Scots in
exceeding head torque requirements, that they added a new Scots Tapcon fastener for
concrete applications. The Scots head will withstand installation into concrete, lapped
purlins and 1/2" bar joist. This has been confirmed in field installations throughout
the Florida hurricane shutter market and as noted in the above JDM Roofing project.
The new proprietary paint system implemented by Buildex on the Scots fastener provides
excellent paint adhesion. Buildex has developed a system that ensures paint adhesion over
the 300 series stainless hex washer head. This can be observed in the jobsite pictures on
the following pages.
The Original Scots is manufactured in Buildex's ISO 9002 approved plants located in the
United States. This ensures that the fasteners are cost competitive, quality conscience
and provides that shortest lead-times for product flow and design flexibility. Such as the
recent product offering expansion to include a 3/8" across flats version, #14
diameter tappers and a #18 diameter fastener. These product line additions were
accomplished to fulfill the design needs of several metal building manufacturers.
Innovative metal building fastening solutions continue at ITW Buildex. The recently
introduced low profile architectural standing seam roof anti-cam-out clip fasteners have
been widely accepted by the metal building market. The reason for Buildex's low profile
fasteners exceptional growth continues to be its unique anti-cam-out system. Both the #10
and #12 diameter clip fasteners for attaching to wood or steel structures have the ITW
anti-cam-out system as a standard. This systems provides a safer installation technique
and prevents fastener waste on the jobsite. This system prevents the fastener from falling
off the driver bit during installation.
Buildex continues to offer its proven Maxiseal Integral sealing washer design and Teks
selfdrilling fasteners with painted hex washer heads. Both of these fasteners are
available as a standard with the Buildex exclusive Climaseal corrosion resistant system.
The Buildex Teks and Maxiseal self - drilling fastener remain the preferred fastening
system of choice for metal building erection. Buildex also offers a fastening Technical
Services Team at 1-800-BUILDEX for contractors, architects and design
engineers. |
