1.0 Statement of Policy
1.0.1 The information and specifications contained in this manual are intended to assist in selecting appropriate roofing systems. JM believes
the design and construction of the buildings which receive these products are best left to the owner, architect and/or contractor.
1.0.2 JM is not responsible for and will not accept, under any circumstances, any responsibility for the adequacy of a building design,
INCLUDING ADEQUACY OF ANY STRUCTURE SUPPORTING THE WEIGHT OF ANY ROOFING SYSTEM. Review of the plans and
specifications by a JM representative shall be for the sole purpose of making suggestions or recommendations concerning details for the
application of JM roofing systems and products.
1.0.3 We reserve, at our discretion and without prior notice, the right to change or modify any of the information, recommendations or
specifications in this publication. The enclosed recommendations and requirements are directed to JM materials used in the roofing system
(vapor retarder, insulation, membrane, flashings and accessories) and to the details of construction which directly affect the application of the
JM roofing system and its performance.
1.0.4 JM does not assume responsibility for decisions as to when and where vapor retarder systems or special attachment procedures are
advisable. When such decisions are factors, the recommendations and procedures outlined in this manual are to be used as guidelines only,
and shall not be taken as an express or implied warranty to fit particular purpose, WHICH JM EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS.
1.0.5 Under no circumstances will JM be responsible for any failure of the roofing systems due to structural defects, damage from other
building trades or for failure due to errors in design of any building element.
1.0.6 Because all the factors creating abnormal wind conditions on a roof cannot be anticipated by JM, we do not accept wind damage
liability.
1.1 Introduction
1.1.1 This manual has been prepared by the JM Roofing Systems Group for architects, engineers, building owners, and roofing contractors, as
a reference guide in designing, selecting, and constructing roofing systems utilizing JM commercial/industrial roofing products. These
products can be utilized to construct Built-Up and Modified Bitumen roofing systems. It presents a wide range of roofing and flashing
specifications which may be installed over various roof structures, at various roof slopes.
1.1.2 It is recommended that the user become familiar with all the relevant material included in this manual before selecting or installing a
particular roof specification.
1.1.3 JM has been manufacturing roofing materials for over 140 years. The information and specifications contained in this manual are based
upon that manufacturing background, extensive field experience, and continuous research. Necessarily, the specifications are designed for
"normal" and "typical" conditions. If non-standard substrates or unusual shapes such as domes, etc., are to be roofed, consultation with JM is
recommended regarding appropriate methods of application.
1.1.4 We stress that to obtain a roofing system that will perform properly, workmanship is equally as important as the use of quality materials
properly designed into a good roofing specification. The most perfectly manufactured product cannot perform its function if it is not properly
installed. The recommendations which are contained in this manual cannot substitute for the knowledge, skill, experience, and integrity
expected of a qualified professional roofing contractor or the technical expertise of trained architects and engineers.
1.1.5 No manual can explicitly cover every detail of a particular roofing system nor anticipate all new products, roof decks, or building designs.
If an unusual condition is encountered that is not explained in this manual, contact a JM Technical Service Specialist.
