7510 Guide Specifications:

Asphalt, Gravel Surfaced, Built-Up Roof System 

2. Starting at the low edge of roof apply [one 9 inch (229 mm) wide, then over that one 18 inch (457 mm) wide, then over that one 27 inches (686 mm) wide, then over those three a full 36 inch (914 mm) wide [GlasPly Premier] [GlasPly IV] felt. Following felts to be applied full width, overlapping each felt 27 1/2 inches (699 mm), giving a minimum of 4 plies over the [base sheet] [insulation] [concrete deck] in all locations.][one 12 inch (305 mm) wide, then over that one 24 inch (610 mm) wide, then over both a full 36 inch (914 mm) wide [GlasPly Premier] [GlasPly IV] felt. Following felts to be applied full width, overlapping each felt 24 2/3 inches (627 mm) giving a minimum of 3 plies over the [base sheet] [insulation] [concrete deck] in all locations.] [one 18 inches (457 mm) wide, then over that a full 36 inch (914 mm) wide of [GlasPly Premier] [GlasPly IV] felt, set in hot asphalt. Following felts are to be applied full width, overlapping the preceding felts by 19 inches (483 mm) so that at least 2 plies cover the base sheet in all locations.] Install each felt so that it shall be firmly and uniformly set, without voids, into the hot asphalt (within 25 degrees F [14 degrees C] of the EVT) applied just before the felt at a nominal uniform rate of 23 lbs. per square (1.12 kg/m2) over the entire surface.

3. Equiviscous Temperature at Point of Application: No more than 25 degrees F (14 degrees C) from asphalt rating indicated on asphalt container label.

4. Apply felts smooth, free from air pockets, wrinkles, fishmouths, lap joints, or tears.

5. Extend [base ply and] membrane felts to the top of cant strips.

6. Install two plies of roofing felt and asphalt glaze coat for cutoff at end of day’s operation. Remove cutoff before resuming roofing.

7. Install traffic pads by setting in hot asphalt at 25 lbs./square (1.22 kg/m2). Set joints 6 inches (152 mm) apart, in all directions.

K. Flashings and Accessories

1. Apply JM granular surfaced SBS flexible base flashings, DynaFlex to seal membrane to vertical elements. Flashing specifications as listed in the current JM manual.

2. Install one roof vent per [1000] [1500] [2000] sq ft ([93] [139] [186] sq m) or part thereof, of roof area.

3. Install prefabricated roof expansion joint covers in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

4. Coordinate installation of roof [drains] [sumps] [__________] and related flashings.

5. Mop in and seal flashings and flanges of items penetrating membrane with two plies of felt.

L. Aggregate Surfacing

1. Apply uniform flood coat of asphalt at rate of 60 lbs./square (2.9 kg/m2) and while hot, embed roofing [gravel] [slag] at the rate of [400] [300] lbs./square ([19.5] [14.6] kg/m2) with a minimum of 50% embedment.

2. Evenly distribute aggregate and ensure bond with flood coat. Extend aggregate to bottom edge of cant strips.

3. [Install aggregate to edge of traffic pads.]

M. Field Quality Control

1. Field inspection [and testing] will be performed under provisions of Section [01400.] [01410.]

2. Correct identified defects or irregularities.

N. Manufacturer’s Field Services

1. Provide manufacturer’s field services under provisions of Section [01600.] [01650.]

2. Request site attendance of roofing [and insulation] materials manufacturers during installation of the work.

O. Cleaning

1. Remove bituminous markings from finished surfaces.

2. In areas where finished surfaces are soiled by asphalt or any other source of soiling caused by work of this section, consult manufacturer of surfaces for cleaning advice and conform to their [documented] instructions.

3. Repair or replace defaced or disfigured finishes caused by work of this section.
